Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to grant permission to conduct Sri Valli Thirumanam Drama scheduled to be held on 27.03.2021 in connection with the festival of Sendhakudi SriMalai Mariamman Koil, Moondrukoodipatti Village, Keelaiyur, Kulavaipatti Post, Alangudi Taluk, Pudukkottai District. By consent, this Writ Petition is taken up for final hearing at the admission stage itself.
2.Mr.N.Kamesh, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner is one of the Members of the 1/3
festival committee of Sendhakudi SriMalai Mariamman Koil, Moondrukoodipatti Village, Keelaiyur, Kulavaipatti Post, Alangudi Taluk, Pudukkottai District and that Sri Valli Thirumanam Drama is scheduled to be held on 27.03.2021. His further contention is that the petitioner submitted a representation dated 18.03.2021 to the respondents seeking permission to conduct the said Drama and till date, no action has been taken by the respondents. 3.The contention of Mr.S.Chandrasekar, learned Additional Public Prosecutor, who accepts notice for the respondents, is that as per G.O.(Ms)No.654 (Revenue and Disaster Management (DM-IV) Department) dated 21.11.2020, the District Collector is the competent authority to consider the request of the petitioner. 4.In the facts and circumstances, the District Collector, Pudukkottai District is at liberty to pass appropriate orders on the representation submitted by the petitioner, based on merits and on findings and in accordance with law, within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order/uploading of this order.
5.With the above observation, this petition is disposed of. No costs.
