Respondents PRAYER: Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the first respondent i.e. the Principal Director, Highways Department, Chennai, to pass appropriate orders on the petitioner's application, dated 19.10.2001 for appointment on compassionate grounds which is registered under waiting list No.613 within a specified time frame that may be fixed by this Court.

ORDER

The Writ Petition is filed seeking a direction to the first respondent to pass appropriate orders on the petitioner's application, dated 19.10.2001 for appointment on compassionate ground, within a specified time frame as fixed by this Court.

2. Heard the learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Additional Government Pleader, who takes notice for the respondents. By consent, the Writ Petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.

3. The case of the petitioner is that his father viz., K.Marikrishnan, was working as Personal Assistant to the Chief Engineer (Highways Department), Chennai and he died on 16.02.2001 while he was in service. Hence, the petitioner has made representations on 19.10.2001 and 09.01.2019 to the respondents https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

seeking compassionate appointment. Since no action is forthcoming till now, the petitioner is before this Court by filing this writ petition.

4. The learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents would submit that the petitioner's representation would be considered within a time frame as fixed by this Court.

5. Considering the limited nature of the prayer as sought for by the petitioner, without going into the merits of the case, the respondents are directed to consider the representation of the petitioner dated 09.01.2019 seeking compassionate appointment, if there are no other legal impediments and pass appropriate orders, on merits and in accordance with law, after due opportunity of hearing to the petitioner, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. The Writ Petition stands disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
