PRAYER: Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for the issuance of a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents herein to forthwith commence and complete the construction of permanent building of First Station for the Kumbakonam Fire and Rescue Service Department in the site identified by the fourth respondent along with District Revenue Officer, Thanjavur in TS No.257, Block-9, Ward-1, measuring 1644 sq.meters (17,696 sq.ft. ) belonging to Veterinary Department and as communicated by the second respondent herein in Na.Ka.No.6078/E/2007 dated 31.07.2020 to the first respondent herein within a reasonable time as may be fixed by this Court.

[Order of the Court was made by T.S.SIVAGNANAM, J.] We have heard Mr.H.Thayumanaswamy, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr.K.Mu.Muthu, learned Additional Government Pleader, who accepts notice on behalf of the respondents. 2.By consent, the Writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.

3.The petitioner by way of this Writ Petition, filed as a Public Interest Litigation, seeks for a direction to the respondents to forthwith commence and complete the construction of permanent building for the Kumbakonam Fire and Rescue Service Department. 4.Initially, the petitioner sought for construction in a place which is within the Court complex, which is not feasible because the same is required for providing quarters for the judicial officers. The Collector has now identified another site which vests with Animal Husbandry and no objection certificate for transferring the land is required. The Department has requested the District Collector, Thanjavur to send the revenue documents for the land belonging to the Animal Husbandry Department to send a proposal to the Government.

5.In this regard, the learned Additional Government Pleader has produced the copy of G.O(D)No.337, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH3) Department, dated 27.12.2020 and the other correspondence, which shows that effective steps have been taken by 2/4

the officials and as such, the last correspondence from the Director of Animal Husbandry is dated 16.02.2021. Therefore, we are of the view that the matter is proceeding in the right direction and it is expected that the respondents shall commence and complete the construction at the earliest.

6.With the above observation, the Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
