It is the case of the petitioner that she was in love with one Ajith, who is a Muslim and wanted to marry him and that it was objected to by her family members. It is also her case that she has eloped and got married to Ajith on 13.04.2017 at Chennai and that hearing reprisal by the members of the family, she has filed the present petition with the aforesaid relief.
2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate for the respondents.
3. Mr.M.Rajkumar, Sub Inspector of Police, Tallakulam Police Station, Madurai, is present before this Court. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/
4. It is represented that Tallakulam Police Station has not been arrayed as respondent, instead, Oomachikulam Police Station has been made as respondent. Be that as it may, in Lata Singh v. State of Uttarpradesh and another (2006) 5 SCC 475, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has directed that State authorities should encourage inter-caste marriage and sufficient protection should be given to couples, who undergo inter-caste marriage.
5. In view of the above, the petitioner and Ajith are directed to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Law and Order), Madurai City and give a representation. On such representation being given, the police shall ensure that no harm befalls them.
6. With the above direction, this criminal original petition is disposed of.
