Respondents PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue a writ of Mandamus, directing the respondent to grant 7 days ordinary leave to the petitioner's husband Suthakaran S/o.Vairavakalai, a lifer, confined in Central Prison, Madurai to see his ailing mother in pursuance of Rule 6 of the Tamil Nadu Suspension of Sentence Rules, 1982 within a time to be stipulated by this Court.

The petitioner, who is the wife of the life convict, Suthakaran, has filed the present Writ Petition seeking seven days ordinary leave for her husband to perform the final rituals of his mother.
2. The documents annexed along with the Writ Petition indicates that the mother of the life convict, V.Nagalakshmi, expired on 08.03.2024 and the 14th day death ceremony is to be held on 23.03.2024.
3. Though seven days ordinary leave is sought for, by taking note of the fact that very recently, six days emergency leave was granted to the life convict, this Court restricts the leave for one day to the convict on 23.03.2024 to perform the final rituals of his mother. The respondents/prison authorities shall release the convict on ordinary leave for
one day on 23.03.2024 from 07.00 AM to 07.00 PM with escort. The convict shall surrender and report before the prison authorities on or before 07.00 PM on 23.03.2024.
4. With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
