Heard the learned counsel on either side.

2. The petitioner was originally known as Zerina Begum. She was born as a Muslim. She married one Velpandi some twenty years ago. The petitioner is now called as Saranya. On 30.11.2013, a girl child was born. All that the petitioner wants is correction of her name in her daughter's birth certificate.

3. The petitioner's counsel drew my attention to Aadhar card, Family card and other documents in which she has been mentioned as Saranya. Since the petitioner was originally known as Zerina Begum, she must formally effect name change through gazette publication. The petitioner is permitted to submit a fresh application to the respondent along with a copy of the gazette publication indicating her name change as Saranya. Once such an application is submitted, the respondent will issue revised Birth Certificate for the petitioner's daughter Roshika by mentioning the petitioner's name as Saranya. In the Birth Certificate, the name Saranya alone will be mentioned. However, in the original revenue 2/4
