Poornima (Date of Birth 09.01.1998) was in love with one Mr.R.Sivakumar, who belongs to a different community. Since Poornima's parents were not agreeable for the marriage, Poornima left her home on 16.05.2017 and got married to R.Sivakumar on 22.05.2017 and the marriage has also been registered in the office of the Sub Registrar, Omalur, Salem District. Fearing honour killing, Poornima had sent a complaint to the Superintendent of Police with a copy to the Inspector of Police, Pattukottai Police Station and has filed the present petition seeking police protection.
2.Today, Mr.Thiruvenkadam, Sub Inspector of Police, Pattukottai Police Station, is present before this Court.
3. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate (crl. side) for the respondents 1 and 2.

4. Today, the parents of Poornima are present in the Court and they are represented by Mr.A.Arun Prasad.
5. The learned Government Advocate submitted that on the complaint given by the father of Poornima (Selvaraj), the 2nd respondent police have registered a 'woman missing' case in Crime No.153/2017.
6. The learned counsel for Mr.Selvaraj submitted that the parents just want to see Poornima and have a direct interaction with her and that they would not do anything prejudicial to her interest.
7. In Lata Singh v. State of Uttarpradesh and another (2006) 5 SCC 475, the Supreme Court had stated that the instrumentalities of the State should encourage inter-caste and inter-community marriages for breaking the caste system. Under such circumstances, Poornima and her husband R.Sivakumar are directed to appear before the Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. Parents of Poornima may also appear before the Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur on that date. The Superintendent of Police shall conduct an enquiry and ensure that no harm befalls Poornima and her husband, by giving necessary police protection, if situation warrants.
