This criminal original petition has been filed seeking a direction to direct the third respondent to give police protection to the petitioner's life and limb.

2.Today, when the petition is came up for hearing, the learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondents 1 to 3, on instructions, would submit that based on the complaint given by the petitioner, the third respondent had registered a case in crime No.112 of 2020, dated 14.12.2019 for the offence under Sections 447, 427, 506(i) IPC. He would further submit that in the above referred case, respondents 5 to 8 and one Karmegam are arrayed as accused. 3.At this juncture, the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that though the third respondent had registered the case against the respondents 5 to 8, after registration of case, the respondents 5 to 8 were attempted to kill the petitioner and caused unlawful hindrance and they have continued their unlawful activities.

4.The submissions made by the learned counsel appearing on either side is recorded.

5.In general, it is a duty of the Investigation Officer to protect the witnesses during the time of investigation. The submission of the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner reveals the fact that, the respondents 5 to 8 were made hindrance to the petitioner's life and limb and caused inconvenience to the petitioner and therefore, the third respondent is directed to give police protection to the petitioner, if necessary. Accordingly, this criminal original petition is allowed.
