ORDER
(Order of the Court was made by S.M.SUBRAMANIAM, J.) The writ on hand has been instituted to direct the first respondent to take immediate and urgent steps to prohibit illegal beach sand mining in the coastal area of Pudumadam Village Panchayat, Ramanathapuram District, and to restrain the same. Further, a direction is sought to take action against the sand mafias who are unlawfully excavating beach sand containing natural deposits of Monazite, which is a comprehensive raw material used in the preparation of Thorium. 2.With reference to the relief sought for in the present Writ Petition, the learned Government Pleader submitted that illegal beach sand mining has already been banned by the Government of India. The State Government has also imposed a ban on coastal beach sand mining. 3/6
3.The learned Government Pleader appearing for the respondents 1 and 2 submitted that action has been initiated against illegal beach sand mining activities and penalties have been imposed. 4.In view of the said factum, this Writ Petition stands closed. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, connected Miscellaneous Petition is closed.
