..Respondents Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying this Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to consider the representation dated 07.02.2026 of the petitioner institution seeking permission for implementing the curriculum approved by the NCAHP and the State Council for B.Sc. Optometry renamed as B.Optomarty from the academic year 2026-2027 as instructed in the notice dated on 24.04.2025 and circular dated 22.08.2025 of the National Commission for Allied and Health Care Professions.

ORDER

The petitioner is before this Court seeking a direction to the respondents to consider the representation dated 05.02.2026. By the said representation, the petitioner's institution, which has been conducting the B.Sc. Optometry course from the academic year 20182019 (a four-year course), has requested the respondent University to convert the course into B.Optom and to revise the structure from a six-semester system to an eight-semester system with a one-year internship, from the academic year 2026-2027. 2.The said representation was made pursuant to the approval of the curriculum for Optometry and other allied health courses by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professionals. As per the notification dated 24.04.2025 issued by the said Commission, institutions may adopt the revised curriculum from the academic session 2025-2026, and it is to be mandatorily implemented from the academic session 2026-2027 onwards.

3.The learned Standing Counsel for the respondents submitted that the respondent University, being an institution established to confer Arts and Science degrees and regulated by the University Grants Commission, is required to examine whether the curriculum prescribed by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professionals can be adopted. He therefore sought reasonable time for consideration of the petitioner's representation. 4.In view of the above, this writ petition is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to consider the petitioner's representation dated 05.02.2026 on its own merits and in accordance with law, and to pass appropriate orders within a period of two (2) months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
