Respondents PRAYER: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a writ of mandamus directing the respondents herein to continue the name of the Kamaraj Bus Stand situate in Thuvarankurichi Village, Ponnampatti Town Panchayath, Marungapuri Taluk, Trichy District, which is existed for the past more than 70 years by considering the representation of the petitioner dated 29.04.2022.

[Order of the Court was made by P.N.PRAKASH, J.] Alleging that the name of Thuvarankurichi Bus Stand is being changed from Kamaraj Bus Stand to another name, the present Public Interest Litigation has been filed for a direction to the Authority concerned not to change the name of the Bus Stand. 2.

On instructions, Mr.S.R.A.Ramachandran, learned Additional Government Pleader, appearing for the respondents 1 to 3, submitted that the said Bus Stand was never named as Kamaraj Bus Stand, whereas the learned counsel for the petitioner produced certain family cards to show that the Bus Stand is named as Kamaraj Bus Stand.

3. Be that as it may, this Court cannot issue a mandamus directing the Public Authorities not to change the name of any place, because it falls under the domain of policy decision. In fact, the names of several places have been changed, including "Madras", which is changed to "Chennai". Hence, the present writ petition is devoid of merits and it is dismissed. No costs.
