This petition is filed by the petitioner to direct the second respondent to grant permission to conduct the festival of the temple namely "Sri Palaniandavar Temple" situated at Thelungapatti, Porunthalur Village, Kulithalai Taluk, Karur District by giving protection to conduct the festival peacefully, based on the petitioner's representation, dated 28.03.2025.
2. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner in one of the villagers and the village people decided to conduct Panguni festival from 10.04.2025 to 12.04.2025. Thereby, they sent a representation for police protection on 28.03.2025, but the same has not been considered. Hence, the petitioner filed this petition.
3. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor (Crl side) for the respondents would submit that there are two groups claiming right over Page No. 2 of 5
the temple and thereby, there is a dispute pending between two groups. The petitioner belongs to one of the groups and he sent a representation for police protection to conduct festival and thereafter, the said representation was forwarded to the Revenue people for conducting Peace Committee Meeting. In the Peace Committee Meeting, both the parties have not settled the matter amicably. Therefore, if the petitioner is ready to conduct festival without any law and order issue, they will provide adequate police protection.
4. Considering the prayer sought for in this petition and since the festival is scheduled to be held from 10.04.2025 to 12.04.2025, the second respondent is directed to give police protection for public for peacefully worshipping the god.
5. It is made clear that this Court has not decided any rights over the temple for the parties, only in the interest of the general public, ordered for police protection.
