*********** [Order of the Court was made by G.R.SWAMINATHAN, J.] The writ petitioner seeks a direction for taking immediate action to catch and eradicate stray/street dog menace in Dindigul Town.
https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/ 2.In view of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001, such a prayer cannot be granted. At the same time, this Court
cannot ignore the complaint of the writ petitioner that the case of dog bites are on the increase. Therefore remedial measures have to be taken.
3.The learned standing counsel for the third respondent corporation filed a status report. It is mentioned in the said status report that a monitoring committee has been constituted. The Corporation has also undertaken that sterilization would be carried out on the female dogs. The District Animal Welfare Board had also undertaken to conduct frequent camps to give injections to the stray dogs.
4.In the said status report a number of precautionary and remedial measures proposed to be undertaken have been set out. This undertaking is placed on record. This Court directs the third respondent Corporation to implement the measures set out in the status report dated 23.01.2017 in letter and spirit. In the very nature of things, this cannot be a one time affair and it will have to be a regular exercise.
5.This Writ Petition is disposed of with this direction. No Costs.
