PRAYER : Writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to sanction widow pension based on the petitioner's representation dated 02.12.2019 to the petitioner. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the writ petitioner and the learned Special Government Pleader appearing for the respondents.

2.The petitioner's husband Shri.Ramamorthi passed away in the year 2017. The petitioner is having two children. The petitioner states that she has no means to maintain herself and her children. She is said to be poor and not quite educated. The petitioner applied to the respondents seeking widow pension under the Widow Pension Scheme of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The petitioner's grievance is that even though she had applied to the respondents, till date, it has not been considered. Hence, she filed this Writ Petition.

3. Today, the matter was listed for admission before this Court this morning. Considering the pathetic condition of the writ petitioner, this Court directed the learned Special Government Pleader to obtain instructions immediately. The matter was passed over to the afternoon. The learned Special Government Pleader acted swiftly and an emergent enquiry was conducted and it is confirmed that the petitioner is a widow and that she is entitled to a widow pension. W.P.(MD).No.10029 of 2020 that in a matter of a few weeks, the petitioner would be paid the pension along with the arrears payable from January 2020. Since the entitlement of the writ petitioner to widow pension is not in doubt, I direct the respondents to sanction widow pension. The respondents will ensure that the pension is disbursed immediately and without any delay to the petitioner herein.

4. The Writ Petition stands allowed. No costs.
