Respondents PRAYER: Writ petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Certiorarified Mandamus calling for the records relating to impugned order passed from the third respondent in Letter No.PU/COE/CRE-IX/2020/069 dated 12.02.2020 to quash the same and consequently direct the respondents to give one more year to complete 1/ 4

Heard the learned counsel on either side.
2.The writ petitioner had enrolled for Ph.D., programme in the year 2008. Such a programme will have to be completed within a period of six years. The University can ofcourse extend the period by two more years. The petitioner states that on account of successive domestic tragedies, he could not complete the programme. He therefore wants this Court to set aside the impugned order and direct the respondents to extend the period so that the petitioner can complete his Ph.D. 3.I am clearly of the view that in such academic matters, the Court cannot issue any positive direction. The matter is left to the syndicate of the Periyar University to take a call. The petitioner can very well place his case before the first respondent. The first respondent will place the petitioner's request before the syndicate and the matter is left 2/ 4
3 W.P.(MD)No.10962 of 2021 entirely to the discretion of the syndicate. I make it clear that the order that will be passed by the syndicate will not furnish any fresh cause of action to the petitioner to agitate the matter once again. 4.With this liberty to the petitioner to approach the respondent university, this Writ Petition is disposed of. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
