ORDER

The Criminal Original Petition has been filed for a direction to the respondents to give adequate police protection to the life and limb of the petitioner and his College Professors, Staffs and Students of the Pasumpon Muthramalinga Thevar College, Melaneelithanallur, Sankarankovil Taluk, Tirunelveli District, on considering the petitioner's representation, dated 13.07.2018.

According to the petitioner, on 04.07.2018, one Pasupathi Pandiyan, who is the leader of Thevar Community, along with 10 known persons trespassed the College campus and entered into the petitioner's room and threatened the petitioner to select the Thevar Community students and induced the same community students to protest the College campus and also abusing filthy language as against the petitioner. Hence, the petitioner informed the said

occurrence to the third respondent police through phone and also lodged a complaint. Again, on 06.07.2018, Ponraj and Dinakaran were trespassed into the College campus and threatened the petitioner to withdraw the earlier complaint as against the said Pasupathi Pandian or otherwise ransack the Principal Room or closed the College and also induced the students to protest against the College. On 09.07.2018, at about 12.00 p.m., Rajamaravan, Pasupathi Pandian, P.Raj Dinakaran along with five unknown persons try to trespass into the College campus and the petitioner informed the same to the third respondent through phone. Thereafter, the third respondent came to the occurrence spot and try to prevent the said persons from entering into the College campus.

But the said persons trespassed into the petitioner's room and threatened him to provide Ist year degree course seat only to their community students and the petitioner has given a reply that by following the Government guidelines, the Ist year seat shall be filled up in the College. But, the said persons did not accept the same and detained the petitioner in his room and abused filthy language as against him. Thereafter, the second respondent came to the occurrence spot and get out the persons from the petitioner's room. The said incident has also been captured at C.C.T.V. Camera in the College. Therefore, the petitioner requested the second respondent to provide police protection to discharge his duties and also made a complaint against the proposed accused. But, so far no action has been taken against the proposed accused.

Hence, the petitioner has approached this Court for the aforesaid relief.

3. The learned Government Advocate (Crl.side) appearing for the respondents would submit that the complaint of the petitioner has been registered in Crime No.236 of 2018 for the offences under Sections 147, 448, 294(b), 353 and 506(i) of I.P.C.

Taking into consideration the aforesaid fact that the petitioner, being the Principal of the College, had received threatening at the hands of the Community persons by interfering with the selection process for the academic year 2018 - 2019 for the petitioner College. Therefore, it is appropriate for this Court to direct the second respondent to provide necessary police protection to the petitioner. Accordingly, the second respondent is directed to provide police protection to the petitioner in the College premises, till the selection process is completed i.e., on 11.08.2018, for the academic year 2018 - 2019, at the cost of the petitioner, subject to conditions, if any imposed by the authority.

5. This Criminal Original Petition is disposed of, with the above direction.
