Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India, praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondent nos.1 to 5 to consider the petitioner's representation dated 21.01.2026, so as to demolish the dilapidated condition Adirampattinam Police Station, Thanjavur District and to pass orders for constructing a new Police Station building for Adirampattinam, Thanjavur District, so as to ensure the safety of public within time frame as fixed by this Court. O R D E R
(Order of the Court was made by R. SURESH KUMAR, J.) The prayer sought for herein is to direct the respondents 1 to 5 to consider the petitioner's representation dated 21.01.2026, so as to demolish the Adirampattinam Police Station, Thanjavur District, which is in dilapidated condition and to pass orders for constructing a new Police Station building for Adirampattinam, Thanjavur District, so as to ensure the safety of public.

2. The Adiramapattinam Police Station building is a dilapidated one and it may fall at any moment, therefore it should be demolished is the prayer sought for by the Writ Petitioner.

Mr.D.Sasikumar, learned Additional Government Pleader who takes notice for the respondents has got written instructions from the fifth respondent, Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur, dated 16.04.2026, wherein, the following has been stated by the fifth respondent:- "The Athirampattinam Police Station building was constructed in the year 1999 and inaugurated on 15.12.1999. At present, the building is in good condition. However, minor repair works are required, which will be carried out after obtaining approval for the repair proposal from the Government. The age of the building is only 27 years, and as per Government norms, the expected service life of such buildings is 40 years. Therefore, at this stage, construction of a new building is not required."

Relying upon this written instructions given by the fifth respondent, the learned Additional Government Pleader would submit that the building was constructed in the year 1999 and it was inaugurated on 15.12.1999, therefore, only 27 years have gone, within which it cannot be stated that it had become a dilapidated one as the minimum life span of the Government building is 40 years, even according to the estimate given by the Public Works Department.
5. If at all there are any minor repairs, that would be taken care of and the renovation work will be undertaken by the Department immediately to correct the repairs and restore the building to have a 100% fitness for the continuous usage of the Police Department of the building concerned.

The said submission made by the learned Additional Government Pleader is taken on record and since the building is only 27 years old, it cannot be stated that it has became a old one and dilapidated one. However, if there are any repairs in the building, they should immediately be attended to, as assured by the fifth respondent, as has 4/7
been stated by the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents and accordingly, the building shall be maintained in good condition.
7. With these observations, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
