[Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice] This Writ Petition has been filed directing the police authorities to grant permission for the smooth conduct of Recklaw race/Bullock Cart, from 26.07.2018 to 28.07.2018, on the eve of Ayyan Sri Sengalai Udayar Sastha Pechi Amman Kovil festival.
2. Whether such permission can be granted or not is within the sole discretion of the police authorities, since the decision involves several factors, including law and order. In the circumstances, we are not inclined to pass orders as prayed for in this Writ Petition. We make it clear that the rejection of the Writ Petition will not prevent the concerned police authorities from considering the application strictly in accordance with law. Needless to mention that in the event permission is granted, all the requisite safeguards to ensure safety of the animals as also human https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/
beings and to preserve peace and harmony shall strictly be enforced.
3. With the above observations, the Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
