ORDER

The petitioner seeks issuance of a Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondents to issue his Gun License in No.157/2/PLN based on the his representation dated 20.03.2025.

2. The petitioner got a Gun license for a Revolver as early as 31.12.1987. The license had been renewed from time to time. However, his application for renewal from 01.01.2024 to 31.12.2025 has been kept pending. Since no progress has been shown, he has come forward with the present writ petition.

3. When the matter came up for admission, I requested Mr.A.Kannan, learned Additional Government Pleader, to get instructions from the District Collector as to why the petitioner's application was kept pending. Mr.A.Kannan sought time to get instructions. Hence, the matter was adjourned.

4. When the matter was taken up for hearing today, Mr.A.Kannan, reports that an enquiry has to be conducted by the District Collector in compliance of the Arms Act and Rules made thereunder. The District Collector has fixed the date of hearing as 2/4

07.05.2025 at 03.45 p.m. The primary objection seems to be that the petitioner is of advanced age, and hence, some doubt has been entertained by the District Collector with respect to the renewal of the licence.

5. Mr.R.Murugaboopathy states that the petitioner will present himself on 07.05.2025 at 03.45 p.m. before the District Collector and put forth his plea for explanation.

6. In view of the above fact, the District Collector, being a statutory authority to deal with the issue, shall consider all the aspects and pass orders on or before 31.05.2025.

7. This writ petition is disposed of accordingly. No costs. 24.04.2025 NCC : Yes/No Index : Yes/No Internet:Yes skn To 1.The District Collector, Dindigul District, Dindigul.
