(in both cases) For Petitioners : Mr.A.Sivaji For Respondent : Mr.P.Subbaraj, Counsel for State COMMON ORDER The petitioners in both these writ petitions, seek the expeditious disposal of proceedings pending before the respondent for cancellation of patta.

2. The petitioners state that they became owners of specific properties under a settlement by their brother, T.R.Varadharajan, under Settlement Deeds dated 06.02.1970 and 14.01.1970, which were registered as document Nos.492 of 1970 and 490 of 1970, respectively, before the SRO, Aruppukottai.

3. In spite of acquiring title to the properties concerned under the aforesaid Settlement Deeds, the petitioners allege that a patta was wrongly issued in the name of some other family members. Therefore, the petitioners submitted a petition to the respondent herein to cancel the erroneously issued patta. Such petitions were filed in October 2020. In spite of the passage of considerable time, the petitioners state that the proceedings have not been concluded by the respondent.

4. Mr.R.Subbaraj, learned counsel for the state, accept notice on behalf of the respondent and states that the respondent would consider and dispose of the petitions filed by the petitioners within a reasonable time frame.

5. Accordingly, without examining the merits of the matter, the respondent herein is directed to:

(i) consider and dispose of the petitions in Na.Ka.Nos.A4/7491, A1/7497, A4/7488/2020, within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, after providing a reasonable opportunity of hearing to the petitioners and to the persons in whose name the pattas were issued.

(ii) consider and dispose of the petitions in Na.Ka.Nos.A4/7490, A1/7481, A4/7499, A4/7493 and A4/7498/2020, within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, after providing a reasonable opportunity of hearing to the petitioners and to the persons in whose name the pattas were issued.
