ORDER

This writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondent to collect the renewal fee for registration from the contractors as per the engineering manual by considering his representation dated 01.04.2019.

The facts as set out in the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition reads as follows:- The petitioner would submit that he is a member of the Contractor Association in Kanyakumari District and there are totally 56 Town Panchayts available in Kanyakumari District. He would submit that each contractor has to pay the prescribed fees for renewal of registration every year to the concerned Town Panchayat and the office bearers of the Town Panchayat are collecting Rs.500/- to Rs.5000/- for renewal of registration. He would submit that as per the guidelines of Engineering Manual for 2/6

Urban Local Bodies in Tamil Nadu, the prescribed fees for renewal of registration are as follows:- 1.

Class V Rs.100/- 2.

Class IV and III Rs.200/- 3.

Class II and I Rs.400/- This should be made within 3 months from the commencement of the financial year.

3. He would submit that despite the above fees structure, the office bearers of the Town Panchayats are collecting a sum of Rs.3500/- to Rs.5000/- for renewal of registration. Therefore, the petitioner had sent several representations to the respondents 1 and 2 but the same was not considered. Thereafter, once again the petitioner on behalf of their association had sent a detailed representation on 01.04.2019 along with the Engineering Manual for Urban Local Bodies in Tamil Nadu and the same was also received by the respondents on 08.04.2019. However, no steps had been taken to date. Aggrieved by the same, the petitioner has come before this Court.

4. Mrs.S.Jeya Priya, learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents 1 to 3 would submit that the representation submitted by the petitioner dated 01.04.2019 will be considered and final orders will be passed within the time stipulated by this Court.

In view of the same, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the matter, the respondents are directed to consider the representation of the petitioner dated 01.04.2019 and pass final orders on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of eight (8) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. The writ petition stands disposed of with the above observations. No costs.
