Heard the learned counsel on either side.

2. The petitioner is a resident of Subramaniyapuram in Sivagiri Taluk. He had constructed a house on his patta land. He wants the second respondent to provide water service connection for the house.

3. His grievance is that even though a request was made, it has not been considered. That led to the filing of the present writ petition.

4. Providing water supply is a basic amenity. It is the statutory duty of the local body to provide the same. Therefore, no exception can be taken to the petitioner's request. The second https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/ 1/2

W.P.(MD)No.11801 of 2022 respondent is directed to provide water service connection to the petition mentioned house within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order subject to fulfilment of all the usual formalities such as payment of charges, etc.

5. The Writ Petition is allowed. No costs.
