ORDER

Seeking to direct the respondents to provide police protection to the petitioner and his family members to conduct the customary religious ritual of Thambiran event on 13.04.2026 and 14.04.2026 at Thambiran Swamy premises Pagam Village, Karur District based on the petitioner's representation dated 07.04.2026, this writ petition is filed.

The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that it is a customary practice of conducting Thambiran religious event every year on the eve of Tamil New Year in the presence of the relatives of the petitioner for the purpose of worshipping their deceased bulls which were buried in the petitioner's patta land. A civil suit was filed by the petitioner's father against certain individuals in O.S.No.303 of 2024 on the file of the learned District Munsif, Karur with respect to Sri Mallaiyan Mayavan Temple and the same is in no way connected to the subject petition. Few writ petitions are also filed by 3rd parties in W.P(MD)No.13845 of 2025, 592 of 2026 and 1489 of 2026 seeking relief of conducting different festivals in Sri Mariyaman Temple, Sri Mallaiyan Temple and Sri Jakkalamman Temple which were all public temples. The petitioner's father had also filed a writ petition in W.P.Crl.(MD)No.1925 of 2026 for 2/5

conducting Maalai Kumbiduthal event for Sri Eruthu Kuttai Swamy Temple and the same is pending. However, now for the purpose of conducting Thambiran event, the petitioner has given a representation on 07.04.2026. Since the same was not considered, the petitioner is before this Court.

3. The learned Government Advocate(Criminal) submitted that there is no objection for the respondent police to permit the petitioner from conducting Thambiran event in his patta land.

4. Heard the learned counsel on either side and carefully perused the materials available on record.

In view of the fact that the petitioner is seeking permission to conduct Thambiran event exclusively in his patta land on 13.04.2026 and 14.04.2026 Pagam Village, Karur District, this Court is of the considered opinion that the same shall be permitted. Accordingly, the same is permitted. However, it is made clear that this permission cannot be taken as a permission granted with respect to the conduct of temple festival referred to in the other temples mentioned supra.
