O R D E R
This petition is filed by the petitioner to direct the respondents 1 to 3 to provide adequate police protection to conduct temple festival scheduled on 30.04.2025 at Sri Veerama Kaliammal Kovil, Mookoor Village, Madukur Circle, Pattukkottai Taluk, Thanjavur District, by considering the petitioner's representation dated 19.04.2025.
2. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the villagers decided to conduct festival for Sri Veerama Kaliammal Kovil on 30.04.2025. For that purpose, the petitioner sent a representation for police protection on 19.04.2025 but there is no action was taken. Hence, Page No. 2 of 6
he filed this petition.
3. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor (Crl.Side) for the respondents 1 to 3 would submit that there are rival groups claiming rights over the temple and Revenue Divisional Officer also earlier passed orders. Therefore, both the parties agreed to conduct festival together. Hence, they will grant police protection for worshipping the temple by the public.
4. The learned Government Advocate for the fourth respondent would submit that they have not received any representation of the petitioner in respect of the temple festival.
5. Considering the prayer sought for in this petition, this Court, without issuing notice to the fourth respondent, is inclined to pass orders.
6. According to the petitioner, he sent a representation for police protection for the temple festival on 30.04.2025, but no action was taken and the third respondent also admitted the receipt of the representation. However, there are rival groups claiming rights over the temple and thereby, there is a chance for law and order issue. Since the prayer is only Page No. 3 of 6
for police protection to conduct festival, this Court, without deciding any rights of the parties over the temple, directs the third respondent to give police protection for smooth worship of public in accordance with law. If any criminal activity done by anybody, the third respondent is at liberty to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
7. With the abovesaid observation and direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
