PRAYER: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to stop illegal sand mining in Vaigai River running through Vadipatti Taluk, Madurai District under the guise of removal of silt or earth in the lands situated in Vadipatti Taluk and further conduct enquiry against the land owners, '2C' patta holders and 'B' memo holders who have joined hands with the sand mafia and excavated thousands of cubic meters of sand in Vadipatti Taluk, Madurai District and recover penalty from them. Today (30.06.2025), when the matter is taken up for hearing, the learned Government Pleader appearing for the respondents would submit that there is no sand mining in the subject locality. If any such illegal sand mining exists, the petitioners are at liberty to give a fresh complaint regarding the illegal sand 2/5

mining, if required and on receipt of such complaint, the authorities competent are bound to initiate all appropriate actions.

2.With the above observation, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
