O R D E R
[Order of the Court was made by A.D.JAGADISH CHANDIRA, J.] The petitioner has filed this habeas corpus petition seeking a direction to the respondents to secure her daughter, namely, Annlin Juedly, aged about 25 years, produce her before this Court and set her at liberty.
2. It is the case of the petitioner that she is working as a Teacher in a Matriculation School and her husband is working in abroad. Her daughter / detenue herein has completed B.Sc., Nursing Course and was working in Apollo Hospitals at Chennai. On 30.03.2024, her daughter came to home to celebrate Easter festival and during such time, the petitioner went to see her ailing mother. When she returned back to home, she found her daughter missing. Though she searched for her daughter, she could not find out the whereabouts of her daughter. Hence, she lodged a complaint before the respondent - Police. Though the petitioner's complaint was taken on file in C.S.R.No.149 of 2024, no effective steps had been taken by the respondent - Police to secure her daughter. Hence, this habeas corpus petition.
3. The second respondent has filed a status report, dated 26.06.2024, indicating the steps that are taken sofar by them.
4. Learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondents, on instructions, would submit that based on the complaint given by the petitioner, a case in Crime No.95 of 2024 has been registered. The investigation conducted sofar reveals that the detenue had a friendship with one Ramadhas, a native of Villupuram, who was also working with her. She stayed with him in Villupuram for few days and thereafter, they went out and now, they are hiding themselves. He would further submit that the respondent - Police are continuing with the investigation and as and when the detenue is secured or her whereabouts is located, the same will be intimated to the petitioner.
5. In view of the above submission of the learned Additional Public Prosecutor, this habeas corpus petition is closed with a direction to the respondent Police to continue with the investigation in accordance with law and as and when the detenue is secured or her whereabouts is identified, the same shall be intimated to the petitioner forthwith.
