Respondents Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India, for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondents to forthwith prevent illegal mining of river sand anywhere in the district of Pudukkottai and for a comprehensive action by constituting a committee with a retired Judge as the Chairman to prevent further damage and repair the damage done so far to the environment because of illicit river sand mining in the district of Pudukkottai with monthly reports to this Court. 2/6

ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by S.M.SUBRAMANIAM, J.) Today when the matter is taken up for hearing, the learned Government Pleader appearing for the respondents 1 & 3 to 11 would submit that no river sand quarrying/mining operations are allowed in the subject place.

2. Therefore, in the event of any theft/illegal river sand quarrying/mining, the petitioner is at liberty to file a complaint before the jurisdictional police and the revenue authorities who in turn has to initiate prosecution against the offenders.
