O R D E R
This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking to quash the final report in C.C.No.2033 of 2022, on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.I, Tirunelveli, filed against the petitioners for the offences punishable under Sections 498(A), 354, 294(b), 506(1) and 406 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
2. The allegation in the final report is that the petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant got married on 20.12.2021; that thereafter, there were matrimonial differences between them; and that during the month of July 2022, the petitioner and other accused forced the second respondent/defacto complainant to remove the thali, abused her in filthy language, and demanded dowry, and thus committed the aforesaid offences.
3. Admittedly, the petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant are the husband and wife. The parties have now entered into a compromise and decided to give a quietus to the entire dispute. The parties have filed a joint compromise memo dated 31st July 2025. The scanned copy of the compromise memo reads as follows: Page No. 2 of 7

4. The petitioner, namely, Dr.R.Ananth and the second respondent/defacto complainant, namely, Sowmi are present before this Court in person. The parties are identified by M/s.R.Arumuga Kani, Special Sub-Inspector of Police, Palay All Women Police Station, Tirunelveli City. All the parties confirmed the compromise arrived at between them. The second respondent/defacto complainant submitted that she does not wish to pursue the case against the petitioner and other accused, who are not before this Court.

In view of the same, and considering the nature of the offences, the matrimonial differences between the petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant, and the relationship between the parties, this Court is of the view that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the impugned final report pending trial. Accordingly, the impugned final report in C.C.No.2033 of 2022, on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.I, Tirunelveli, is quashed. The petitioner shall pay a sum of Rs.5,000/- as costs to the Mediation and Conciliation Centre attached to the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court forthwith and file a photocopy of the receipt along with a memo reporting compliance in the Registry.
