O R D E R

The petitioner has come forward with this Writ Petition for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus seeking a direction to the respondent to grant permission to perform the program of 'Karakattam' on 09.07.2017 at night at "Arulmigu Mariamman Thirukovil" situated in Theranipalayam Village, Lalkudi Taluk, Trichy District and to to provide adequate police protection based on petitioner's representation, dated 03.07.2017.

The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the villagers jointly decided to conduct 'Karakattam' programme on 09.07.2017 in connection with a festival of "Arulmigu Mariamman Thirukovil" situated in Theranipalayam Village, Lalkudi Taluk, Trichy District". He would further submit that in this connection, a representation was given to the respondent on 03.07.2017, with a request to grant permission and protection to conduct the programme on the above said date. has not yet considered the said representation and hence, the petitioner is before this Court with this Writ Petition.

3. The learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondent on instructions submitted that this Court may grant permission for "Karakattam" programme with stringent conditions. He would further submit that there is no adverse remarks against the petitioner in conducting the "Karakattam" programme on 09.07.2017.

4. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondent.

5. Under such circumstances, the Writ petition is disposed of with a direction to the respondent police to grant permission and to provide police protection to perform the "Karakattam" programme on 09.07.2017, in connection with a festival of "Arulmigu Mariamman Thirukovil" situated in Theranipalayam Village, Lalkudi Taluk, Trichy District", subject to reasonable conditions which the respondent police may impose.
