ORDER

The petitioner has purchased lands in specific Survey Numbers of the Manampakki Village group, Manamadurai Taluk Sivagangai District. The sale deed in respect of such purchase was presented for registration before the respondent herein on 06.08.2021. It is stated that a temporary acknowledgment number was assigned by the respondent. The present writ petition is filed in these facts and circumstances for a direction to the respondent to register the sale deed.

2. Mr.R.Baskaran, learned Counsel for the State, accepts notice on behalf of the sole respondent. He states that the document has actually not been presented for registration and that the petitioner has merely obtained an online acknowledgment in respect of a proposed registration.

3. If a document is received for registration by the registration authorities, such authorities are under an obligation to either register the document or to indicate the reasons for refusing to register such documents. In the case at hand, although learned Counsel for the State points out that the document may not have been received by the Registration Department, the petitioner asserts that it was submitted for registration to the Registration Department.

In the above facts and circumstances, the respondent herein is directed to consider the application of the petitioner for registration and either register the document or indicate cogent reasons for the refusal to register the document within a period of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. The petitioner may be provided a reasonable opportunity before an order is passed.

5. W.P.(MD).No.14343 of 2021 is disposed of on these terms without any order as to costs.
