Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to give necessary police protection on account of Guru Peyarchi festival scheduled to be held on 02.09.2017 by considering the petitioner's representation, dated 15.08.2017. For Petitioner : Mr.P.Saravanakumar For Respondents : Mr.S.Sadhish Kumar, Additional Government Pleader.

O R D E R

This Writ Petition is filed for issuing a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to give necessary police protection on account of "Guru Peyarchi" festival scheduled to be held on 02.09.2017, in the temple known as "Arulmighu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Thirukoil", Thiruppathur Taluk, Sivagangai District, by considering the petitioner's representation, dated 15.08.2017.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents.

3. The learned Additional Government Pleader admitted that police protection is being given for this festival every year. Hence, he further submitted that a direction can be given subject to stringent conditions.

The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that last year, the respondent police have allowed the V.I.Ps., through the exit entry and that this practice of allowing worshipers through the exit entry is contrary to "Aagama" rules. It is further submitted that the petitioner has no objection for the police to allow the V.I.Ps., through entry point.

5. In these circumstances, this Court is inclined to pass the following direction:- "i) The respondents shall grant police protection to conduct the "Guru Peyarchi" festival, at "Arulmighu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Thirukoil", Thiruppathur Taluk, Sivagangai District, scheduled to be held on 02.09.2017. The respondents also shall consider the grievance of the petitioner, not to allow the V.I.Ps. through exit entry, respecting the sentiments of the trustees of the temple. ii) The petitioner is also directed to pay the charges for giving adequate police protection."

6. With the above direction, the Writ petition is allowed. No costs.
