Respondents Prayer:This Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus to directing the respondents to promote the petitioners as Assistant Engineers from the date of acquiring BE Degree respectively as per the Common Service Rules with all monetary and other service benefits and to extend the benefit of 9 similarly placed persons in Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Ltd, by order dated 23.11.2010.

O R D E R

The writ petitioners joined the respondent corporation as Junior Trades Man. They acquired Diploma and even B.E degrees by successfully undergoing part time courses. For almost 25 years, they were languishing without even a promotion. Only in the https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/ year 2012, they got promotion as Junior Engineers. Even though they are qualified to be posted as Assistant Engineers, the

respondent corporation went in for direct recruitment. Therefore, the petitioners submitted representation dated 09.08.2017 in this regard. They have highlighted the fact that in Dindigul Region as many as 9 Junior Engineers were promoted as Assistant Engineers on 24.10.2016. They want extension of similar benefit.

2.Since the writ petitioners have been serving in the respondent corporation for a long time and are possessing the requisite eligibility qualifications and since similarly placed persons were granted the benefit of promotion as Assistant Engineers in Dindigul region of TNSTC, this Court directs the first respondent to consider the said representation dated 09.08.2017 and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

3.This writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
