ORDER : The Court made the following order :- The petitioner, who was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on 16.10.2024 for the offences punishable under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii) (c), 29(1), 25 of Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 in Crime No.244 of 2024 on the file of the respondent police, seeks bail.

2. The case of the prosecution is that A1 to A3 were found in possession of 22 Kilograms of Ganja and they were bringing it in a twowheeler. Hence, the case.

3. The learned Counsel for the petitioner submitted that this is the third bail application. Earlier, this Court dismissed the bail application on 20.12.2024, and another bail application was dismissed as withdrawn. The present bail application has been filed on the ground that the petitioner has been in judicial custody for the past 517 days.

4. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor submitted that the petitioner belongs to Andhra Pradesh and, therefore, in the event of his release, securing his presence before the trial Court during the course of 2/4

trial would be difficult. It was further submitted that the case has been posted for examination of witnesses; P.W.1 and P.W.2 have already been examined and Ex.P.1 to Ex.P.12 have been marked, and the matter is posted on 18.03.2026 for examination of the remaining witnesses.

5. In view of the above circumstances, this Court is not inclined to entertain this petition. The period of incarceration undergone by the petitioner is not a relevant material in this type of offences. The contraband involved in this case is of a huge quantity.

6. Accordingly, this Criminal Original Petition is dismissed. However, the learned Judge, Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Cases, Madurai is directed to complete the trial within a period of two months from 18.03.2026 onwards. (K K R K J) 17.03.2026 gvn 3/4
