ORDER

The petitioner seeks a direction for the conduct of a Peace Committee Meeting by the first respondent pursuant to his representation dated 17.11.2020.

2. The petitioner states that the Muthumariyamman Temple is situated in Irumbanadu Village. The dispute relates to the right to worship at the said temple. It appears that there are two groups: one group comprising the petitioner and the other comprising the third respondent. W.P(MD)No.15731 of 2021 the petitioner submitted a representation dated 17.11.2020 for the conduct of a Peace Committee Meeting by the first respondent. In view of the alleged failure to take action thereon, the present Writ Petition is filed.

3. Mr.P.Subbaraj, learned counsel for the State, accepts notice on behalf of respondents 1 and 2. He submits that the first respondent may be directed to consider the representation and dispose of the same on merits.

4. There is no statutory obligation imposed on the first respondent to conduct a Peace Committee Meeting. Indeed, such Peace Committee Meeting is not recognized in any statute. At the same time, a dispute between two groups in a village has been brought to the attention of the Tahsildar. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to provide a solution to such dispute.

5. Subject to the above observations, W.P.(MD).No.15731 of 2021 is disposed of by directing the first respondent to consider the petitioner's representation dated 17.11.2020 and act on such representation by undertaking appropriate measures in such regard. There will be no order as to costs.
