Respondents PRAYER: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue a Writ of Mandamus, to direct the respondents to settle interest at 18% per annum for the belated payment of gratuity of Rs.3,33,579/- from the date of the petitioner's retirement to till the date on which the said benefits were settled to the petitioner.

Mr. D.Sivaraman, learned Standing Counsel takes notice for the respondents.

2. By consent of both parties, the main writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.

3. The petitioner was employed in the first respondent/ Transport Corporation. His gratuity dues were settled belatedly. The petitioner is obviously entitled to payment of interest for the belated settlement. This Court directs the respondents to pay interest at the rate of 6% for the delay occasioned in settling the amount payable to the petitioner.
