********* [Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice] Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr.M.Govindan, learned Special Government Pleader, who takes notice for the respondents.

2. The present Writ Petition has been filed seeking a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to grant permission and to provide police protection to conduct Jallikattu on 18.03.2017 during the Tamil month of Maasi at Kalamavur Village, Kulathur Taluk, Pudukkottai District.

3. According to the petitioner, Jallikattu has been protected by the Act of the Government and to avoid untoward incident, necessary protection has to be extended to the petitioner for conducting Jallikattu on 18.03.2017, in a peaceful manner, during https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

the Tamil month of Maasi at Kalamavur Village, Kulathur Taluk, Pudukkottai District.

4. It appears that the Government has taken a decision to conduct Jallikattu programme, as it is a customary practise and a game permissible since time immemorial, however, subject to maintenance of law and order situation and therefore, it is for the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police to take care of the situation and to see that no such untoward incident happens, by providing necessary police protection.

5. The Writ Petition is disposed of with the above observation. No costs.
