Heard Mr.S.Krishnan, learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr.S.Shanmugavel, learned Additional Government Pleader for the respondents.
2. This Writ Petition has been filed for issuance of Writ of Mandamus, seeking direction against the first respondent to dispose the mercy petition of the petitioner dated 22.02.2021 and 22.11.2023.
3. Since the petitioner's mercy petition is pending for a long time, the petitioner has filed this Writ Petition to dispose of the same. 2/5
4. Mr.S.Krishnan, learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is entitled as per the dictum laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case Ramlal Vs State of Rajasthan reported in AIR 2001 Supreme Court 47.
5. The petitioner is at liberty to make additional submissions to the first respondent in this regard and on receipt of the same, the first respondent shall consider and pass orders and dispose of the mercy petitions dated 22.02.2021 and 22.11.2023, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. In view of the above, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
