O R D E R

*********** [Order of the Court was made by G.R.SWAMINATHAN,J.] The Writ Petition has been filed for directing the respondents to increase the Sports Quota Seats in Tamil Nadu Medical and Dental Colleges from 3 to 20. The writ petitioner has given a representation, dated 06.06.2016 in this regard.

2. We have gone through the said representation. Matters such as this essentially fall in the realm of governmental policy. Therefore, it is not possible for this Court to issue the direction sought for by the writ petitioner. However, a persuasive case has been made out in the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition.

3. The learned counsel for the writ petitioner pointed out that sports reservation in Tamil Nadu is meagre. Though the number of seats in Medical and Dental Colleges has been hiked periodically, the number of seats reserved for sports quota has remained constant. It is hardly necessary to emphasize the importance of sports. It is the duty of the State Government to give sufficient encouragement in this competitive world. Unless, there is some reservation for sports quota, students will not be encouraged to take up sports seriously. Therefore, we direct the respondents to consider the representation dated 06-June-2016 and pass appropriate orders within a period of four months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
