O R D E R

*********** [Order of the Court was made by G.R.SWAMINATHAN, J.] When it was reported in the newspapers that on account of the obstructions made by the encroachers in public places, the general public are put to inconvenience, the same was taken up as Suo-motu Public Interest Litigation.

2.Notice was issued to the Madurai Corporation. The matter was heard from time to time. Status reports were filed. 3.The learned standing counsel appearing for the Madurai Corporation submitted that encroachments are being removed on a regular basis. We place on record the reports submitted by the Commissioner for Madurai Corporation. In the report dated 21.08.2017, the Commissioner Corporation of Madurai has undertaken that the work of removal of encroachments would be continued and periodical special drives would also be undertaken. That apart, if specific complaints are received by the Corporation, immediate steps would be taken to remove the unauthorised roadside encroachments.

4.Placing this submission on record, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently connected miscellaneous petition is also closed.
