O R D E R

[Order of the Court was made by N.ANAND VENKATESH, J.] This writ petition has been filed for the issue of writ of mandamus directing the respondents to consider the representation dated 20.05.2026 and to grant extension of 60 days furlough without escort to the convict, who is presently serving sentence at Central Prison, Madurai.

2. Heard the learned counsel on either side.

3. The convict was granted 60 days furlough from 24.04.2026 to 26.06.2026 through the proceedings dated 08.04.2026. The convict sought for extension of furlough for another 60 days. Since the representation was not considered, the present writ petition has been filed before this Court.

4. When the writ petition came up for hearing on 19.06.2026. the learned counsel for the State of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side) sought for some time to take instructions, since the period of furlough granted was about to expire on 22.06.2026. This Court directed the convict to surrender before the jail authorities on time.

5. When the matter was taken up for hearing today, it was brought to the notice of this Court that the convict has surrendered before the jail authorities. The learned counsel for the State of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side) had also produced the recommendation made by the second respondent through the communication dated 17.06.2026 to extend the furlough for another period of 60 days. The learned counsel submitted that necessary orders will be passed within a period of four weeks.

6. In the light of the above submission and the recommendation that has already been made by the second respondent, necessary orders shall be passed by the first respondent within a period not exceeding four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
