O R D E R

The petitioner has approached this Court seeking a direction to the first respondent to issue a notification recognising the autonomous status conferred upon the petitioner-college by the second respondent, namely, the University Grants Commission. 2.It is submitted that the second respondent, by proceedings dated 16.04.2026, granted autonomous status to the petitionercollege for a period of five years, commencing from the academic year 2026-2027 and continuing up to the academic year 2030-2031, in terms of Clause 7.4 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023.

3.Learned counsel for the petitioner placed reliance on the judgment of the Division Bench of this Court in W.A. No.51 of 2020 2/4

dated 14.02.2020, wherein it was held that once autonomous status is conferred by the University Grants Commission, the State Government is required to issue the consequential notification without undue delay.

4.In view of the above, and following the law laid down by the Division Bench, the first respondent is directed to issue the notification recognising the autonomous status granted to the petitioner-college on or before 22.07.2026.

5.With the above direction, the writ petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
