Respondents PRAYER: Writ Petition Criminal is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue a writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to immediately discontinue the practice of confining convict prisoners from 6 p.m to 6. a.m during the period of leave granted with escort by the jail authorities in Ramanathapuram district and declare that the practice of overnight confinement of convict prisoners during the leave period granted by the jail authorities with escort, followed exclusively in Ramanathapuram District, is arbitrary, unreasonable, discriminatory, and violative of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India

J.,) The prayer in the writ petition is to direct the respondents to immediately discontinue the practice of confining convict prisoners from 6 p.m to 6. a.m during the period of leave granted with escort by the jail authorities in Ramanathapuram district and declare that the practice of overnight confinement of convict prisoners during the leave period granted by the jail authorities with escort, followed exclusively in Ramanathapuram District, is arbitrary, unreasonable, discriminatory, and violative of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
2. In view of the specific provision under Rule 25(3) of the Tamil Nadu Suspension of Sentence Rules, 1982, the relief sought for by the petitioners in this petition cannot be granted.
3. Hence the writ petition stands dismissed. No costs. Consequently connected miscellaneous petition stands closed.
