O R D E R

The petitioner has approached this Court seeking issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the first respondent to issue a legal heirship certificate in respect of his maternal grandfather, late Suruliyandi Naidu, who is stated to have died in the year 1939.

2.According to the petitioner, the said Suruliyandi Naidu was his maternal grandfather and, upon his demise, was survived by the petitioner's mother and other legal heirs. The petitioner states that his mother has also since passed away. In these circumstances, the petitioner submitted a representation dated 25.02.2026 before the first respondent seeking issuance of a legal heirship certificate in respect of the deceased Suruliyandi Naidu, showing the petitioner and the other surviving descendants as his legal heirs.

3.The grievance of the petitioner is that, despite the lapse of 2/6

considerable time, no orders have been passed on the said representation. 4.Mr. R. Ramasamy, learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents, on instructions, submits that the petitioner's representation dated 25.02.2026 will be considered and disposed of by the first respondent on its own merits and in accordance with law within such time as may be stipulated by this Court. The said submission is placed on record.

5.In view of the above submission, and without expressing any opinion on the merits of the petitioner's claim or his entitlement to the relief sought, this Court is inclined to direct the competent authority to consider the petitioner's representation in a time-bound manner. 6.Accordingly, the writ petition stands disposed of with a direction to the first respondent to consider and dispose of the petitioner's representation dated 25.02.2026 on its own merits and in accordance with law, after conducting such enquiry as may be necessary and after affording an opportunity of hearing to all persons likely to be affected by 3/6

the decision.

7.It is made clear that this Court has not expressed any opinion on the maintainability of the request or the entitlement of the petitioner to a legal heirship certificate in respect of a person stated to have died in the year 1939, and all such issues are left open for consideration by the competent authority.

8.The aforesaid exercise shall be completed within a period of eight (8) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 9.There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
