ORDER

This writ petition has been filed for a Mandamus seeking for a direction to the respondent to renew the Petitioner's Licence for possessing .22 rifle under Licence No.293/2001/TUT by considering the Petitioner's representation dated 07/11/2019 and 20/11/2020. 2.Heard Mr.G.Prabhu Rajadurai, learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr.M.Rajarajan, learned Additional Government Pleader, who accepts notice on behalf of the respondent. 3.By consent of both parties, this writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the admission stage itself. 4.It is the case of the petitioner that he is having a Salt Manufacturing Industry and for his safety, he has been possessing a gun .22 rifle licence, since 2001.

It is also his case that the licence has been periodically renewed and the last such renewal was for the period from 2016-2019, which expired on 31.12.2019. According to the petitioner, he applied for renewal of his gun licence in advance on 07.11.2019 to the respondent and has also paid the requisite fee of Rs.500/-. However, according to him, despite representations dated 07.11.2019 and 20.11.2020 to the respondent, till date, his application for renewal has not been considered. In such circumstances, this writ petition has been filed. 5.The relief sought for in this writ petition is an innocuous relief. The petitioner claims that he is in possession of a gun Licence ever since 2001, which has been renewed periodically. He has submitted an application with the respondent seeking for renewal https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.

W.P(MD).No.18331 of 2020 on 07.11.2019 by paying necessary fee of Rs.500/-. However, it is his case that despite his representations dated 07.11.2019 and 20.11.2020, the respondent has not renewed his gun Licence. No prejudice will be caused to the respondent, if the petitioner's application seeking for renewal of his gun Licence which expired on 31.12.2019 is considered by him on merits and in accordance with law.

6.For the foregoing reasons, this Court directs the respondent to consider the petitioner's application dated 07.11.2019, seeking for renewal of his .22 rifle licence and pass final orders on merits and in accordance with law after giving sufficient opportunity to the petitioner including grant him the right of personal hearing, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

7.With the aforesaid direction, this writ petition is disposed of. No costs.
