ORDER

The petitioner has come up with the above writ petition seeking for the issue of a writ of mandamus, to direct the respondent to permit the petitioner to continue her final year B.Com degree course through distance education based on the petitioner's representation, dated 13.01.2016 within a stipulated time.

2.Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate for the respondent. 3.The petitioner was the student of B.Com degree at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College at Madurai. She got married on 27.08.2015, which had brought her education career to a halt. As she had already successfully completed two years with 80% marks, she wanted to pursue her degree by distance education and complete the course. Therefore, she applied to the respondent University for a lateral entry to complete her B.Com degree course. As there was no response, the petitioner has come to this Court seeking a direction to the respondent to permit the petitioner to continue the final year B.Com degree course through distance education in Madurai Kamaraj University.

4.After notice, the learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondent University appeared and stated that the lateral entry to any course is temporarily stopped until further orders and had specifically stated that a communication has been sent by the Director of the University to the Registrar stating that as per the order of the authorities dated 31.08.2013, the lateral entry admission was temporarily stopped by the University from 01.09.2015.

5.Admittedly, the petitioner sent the application form only in the month of December, 2015 before which date, the lateral entry admission was stopped by the University. Therefore, the relief sought for by the petitioner, cannot be granted. 6.In the result, the writ petition is dismissed. No costs.
