PRAYER: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus, to direct the respondents to release the petitioner's husband by name Mariappan (Life Convict No.23) son of Narayanathevar aged about 57 years, confining at Palayamkottai Central Prison as per the G.O.(Ms).No.488, dated 15.11.2021, issued by the first respondent and in the light of G.O.(MS).No. 683, dated 09.12.2024 passed by the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home (Prison IV) Department, which was passed in favour of Chinnadurai S/O Masanam (Life Convict No.25).

ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by A.D.JAGADISH CHANDIRA,J.) This petition has been filed to direct the respondents to release the petitioner's husband by name Mariappan (Life Convict No.23) son of Narayanathevar aged about 57 years, confining at Palayamkottai Central Prison as per the G.O.(Ms).No.488, dated 15.11.2021, issued by the first respondent and in the light of G.O.(MS).No.683, dated 09.12.2024 passed by the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home (Prison IV) Department, which was passed in favour of Chinnadurai S/O Masanam (Life Convict No.25).

2.When the matter is taken up for hearing today, the learned Additional Public Prosecutor would submit that pursuant to the order passed by this Court dated 06.11.2025 in W.P.(MD).No.20837 of 2024, the petition was recirculated for consideration. However, the petitioner is completing 14 years of actual sentence only on 10.07.2025. The respondents will endeavour to consider his representation and pass the order as expeditiously as possible. 3.Recording the submission made by the learned Additional Public Prosecutor, the first respondent is directed to consider the petitioner's representation and pass appropriate order in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible.
