O R D E R
[Order of the Court was made by S.M.SUBRAMANIAM, J.] This writ petition has been instituted for a mandamus to direct the first and second respondents to remove the encroachments in the water canals running in and around Thanjavur Town more particularly, the encroachment made by the third and fourth respondents.
2. The learned Government Pleader would submit that deviations are identified, however encroachments are yet to be identified.
3. The learned counsel for the fourth respondent would submit that there is no encroachment.

4. Be that as it may, whenever such complaint for encroachment has been received, the Commissioner, Thanjavur City Corporation has to conduct field inspection and survey and find out if any encroachment has been made by any person. In the event of identifying any such encroachment, the authorities competent are bound to take effective steps and evict the encroachers by following the procedures as contemplated under the relevant statutes and rules. The said exercise is directed to be completed within a period of twelve weeks from the date of receiving the complaint.
5. With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
