ORDER

This Writ Petition is filed seeking to direct the respondents Nos.1 and 2 to provide adequate police protection at Mugil Law College, Athencode, Padanthalumoodu, Kanniyakumari District on 30.06.2026 and 01.07.2026 in anticipation of a student protest.

2. The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the Mugil Law College is scheduled to be reopened on 01.07.2026. However, already a group of students associated with the Students Federation of India have called for a serious protest on the reopening day. In this regard, anticipating a law and order problem, it is necessary that a proper police protection should be afforded for the peaceful conduct of the college on the reopening day. Hence, a representation has already been given on 23.06.2026 through post. Since the same was not considered, this writ petition is filed.

3. The learned Government Advocate, Mr. C. Susi Kumar, submitted that the matter is all about certain issues which had emanated 2/5

from the mismanagement of the said College and the petitioner's representation is still pending. Based on the complaint from as many as 8 students, against the College, a first information report in Crime No. 124 of 2026 dated 12.05.2026 has been registered, as against one Arulanantham and five others. All the accused have absconded and filed anticipatory bail petitions, which are pending.

4. Heard either sides and carefully perused the materials available on Court.

5. This Court is concerned about the welfare of students and this Court is conscious about the right of the students to protest. Hence, the respondent police is directed to afford necessary police protection to the students to protest peacefully and the petitioner college is directed to pay the necessary charges to the respondent police for affording necessary police protection to the students to protest peacefully, in terms of G.O.Ms.No.139 Home (Pol.VIII) Department dated 04.03.2019. 3/5
