Heard both sides.

2. The petitioner wanted the respondents to assign 2 acres of land in the petition-mentioned survey numbers in Puthukulam Village. The petitioner's request was rejected. Questioning the same, the present writ petition came to be filed.

3. When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner reiterated all the contentions set out in the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition and called upon this Court to set aside the impugned order and to grant relief as prayed for.

4. The learned Additional Government Pleader informs the Court that the lands in question were acquired under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act. The lands acquired could be assigned only if they were acquired under the Tamil Nadu Land Reforms 2/4

3 W.P.(MD)NO.20991 OF 2014 (Fixation of Ceiling on Land) Act by invoking the provisions of Tamil Nadu Land Reforms (Disposal of Surplus Land) Rules 1965. It is further stated that the petition-mentioned survey numbers have been assigned town survey numbers. The land in question falls within Tirunelveli Urban Agglomeration.
