[Order of the Court was made by S.M.SUBRAMANIAM, J.] The writ on hand has been instituted to direct the respondents 1 to 5 to take necessary steps to prevent and take legal action against the exploitation of ground water by illegally sucking for the 2/5

commercial purpose by the sixth respondent at Plot No.2/85-2, S.R.Jangid Nagar, Madurai.

2. Extraction of ground water for commercial purposes is now prohibited and licence is to be obtained by following the procedures as contemplated under law. Therefore, illegal extraction of ground water for commercial purposes cannot be undertaken by any person. Therefore, the authorities are directed to conduct inspection and find out if any illegal extraction of water is made in the subject property. If so, appropriate actions are to be initiated to close down such commercial units.

3. With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
